Architecture: Living ON The Ocean

(just around the corner between Atlantic and Pacific)

Firstly, let me say this; the place that the original story is at has the title, “Seasteading Is The Aquatic Answer To The Housing Crisis.”

Now I would like to know something; where is this housing crisis? Its not in the US with housing prices going down 27% and still dropping . Some towns thinking about knocking down some of the built up empty homes so that they will stop depreciating the value of the homes there… that housing crisis?

ANYway, back to the cool architecture. I would love to live there. I don’t know what it would be like during storms but I would really like it.

Brief desctipion:

The Seasteading Institute, committed to the ongoing development of ocean communities, has just announced the winners of their first annual design content. Could people really end up living in these hypothetical off-shore communities? The design contest had five categories: Overall, Best Picture, Aesthetics, Personality, and Community Choice

If I knew about it, I would have entered the competition. Hey, you never know until you try! lol

Glass Box At 1300 Feet! Sears Tower “The Ledge” is Open

Sears Tower The Ledge glass floor

(now this is just plain scary)

Sears Tower The Ledge

(more pics of this here)

This has got to be the scariest thing I have ever seen. Now I don’t really have a fear of heights (that I know about) but I would be totally afriad to step out on a glass ledge at 1353 feet in the air in the US tallest building in a place that has more wind you can shake a fist at (went old school with that one).

They’ve just opened “The Ledge,” glass floor balconies located on the building’s 103rd floor. They are 1,353 feet in the air and stick out four feet from the building. It’s like that scene in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” but to the extreme.

Hmmm I don’t remember anything about this on Ferris Bueller Day Off… Oh and by the way, the Sears Tower will be changing its name to the Willis Tower. Yeah I know, its missing something.

Architecture: Portable, Prefab & Recycled Cargo Container Home

BEFORE TRANSFORMATION - Portable, Prefab & Recycled Cargo Container Home

(you will never guess what this looks like open)

Ever wanted to live in  old recycled cargo container? You dream of saying, “Well, I gotta go back to my container down the road next to the railroad tracks cause if I aint home by 6, the wife will just kill me.”?

If that (and other off the wall thoughts) is what you are thinking, then maybe this is the right thing for you. Continue reading

Architecture: Time To Retire In The Desert

Troon Village - Pic from Benn Hoffmann

Troon Village - Pic from Benn Hoffmann

Fortune magazine has come up with a list of 6 places to go get your retirement on. And then Forune decides that 6 places ISN’T ENOUGH!!! They also give you 12 real estate deals for retirement.

And since you are thinking about retirement, Fortune (I keep thinking Forbes for some reason when I type Fortune… hmmm) give you a list of stocks to retire on.

I say that makes things well rounded.

The HighLine Park and Public Space

(I love it!!!)

Background Info Videos

You see this? This is why I like Architecture so much. This is why I am planning my return into the field (either that or getting into transportation and real estate… or maybe all 3, who can stop me? lol) I see the loss of these spaces all around the city. Stuff that can make NYC even more unique than it already is. I sometime morn the loss of some parts of our above ground elevated tracks that could have been something special. I think about the strip of unused elevated track owned by the LIRR/MTA that has now become a row of trees that cuts through queens and ask myself, “will they tear that down one day?”

Oh and you should see some of the buildings they have up already, and what is planned. Its just wonderful.

The High Line, ladies and gentlemen! Please remember to head over there when its finished AND take a look at the Friends Of The Highline website and don’t forget to look at the slide show.

Trump International Hotel & Tower in Dubia Is Looking Good

For those of us who got that money, they may be interested in living or at least staying temporarily at this hotel/tower being built on what once was just ocean.  One living quarters (penthouse actually) in the tower is going for 30 Million. While that may sound like allot for many people, it will probably end up being a bargain for others willing to live and play on the new island of Palm Jumeriah at Dubai.

I don’t know if I would want to live there, but it looks like a great place to visit.

As seen on (another favorite site of mine to go to): Trump Plans $30 Million Dubai Penthouse

They have way more info and way more pics of other Trump projects so check it out.

Lets Travel: Worlds Largest Hotel On The Water

Now this is luxury!!!

I think this is something we all can get behind (as long as it floats and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg). I would love to travel more myself, but so far I haven’t… actually I never left the East Coast lol Now that is a pretty limited travel experience. I think we all should see what’s out there to see and feel that there are other ways of looking at things. Nt everything is a big city or a small town.

I would love to see the floor plans for this thing. Heck, I would love to see all of the architectural drawings drawings for this (including any videos). For more, head over to The.LIFE.Files
